Cat Training: Ways To Have A Well-behaved Cat

by Kathrynn Kelley

A significant consideration while "cat training" or "kitten training", primarily during their house training, is being aware that berating your pet simply isn't always effective. At first, pet owners may experience frustration while attempting to teach their cat how to use a litter box because they can't catch the feline in the misconduct so they can reprove them.

People usually tell the cat the proof, then try to discipline the cat at the time, and sometimes they even pull the cat back to the box, forcing them to dig in the litter. What the cat gets as part of this cat training is that being scooped up by its owner is a terrible thing, and that a litter box is nothing but an unpleasant place.

It's not easy and not always possible to catch cats doing this. The majority of cats have now realized that it's no fun being trapped. If you do find your cat doing this, you really need to make him realize what he's doing wrong.

When you attempt to discipline your cat after the event, he won't correlate the punishment with the offense he committed. Either way, the misbehavior continues. Some felines misbehave simply to attract your attention, and that is enough reward to induce your pet to persist with his misconduct.

So you're getting a new kitten! If you've bought a kitten from a reputable breeder, the kitten should have had specific cat training in regard to using a litter box by watching its mother. Of any cat problems that could arise, this is one that should have been taken care of before you bring it home.

Make sure to inquire of the breeder what kind of litter box your kitten was used to before you brought him home. Frequently if you switch to a different brand, he might not figure out it's purpose. Should you wish to switch the brand of box you use, transition gradually.

When cat training or kitten training, remember: berating pets is useless. Owners get frustrated when teaching cats about litter boxes; they can't catch cats doing wrong and scold. They try dragging cats to the box and scolding, but the cat learns the litter box is bad. It's hard to catch cats if being trapped is undesirable. They will misbehave when you're gone. If you discipline belatedly, the cat won't connect this with the offense. Some cats misbehave for attention. Kittens learn litter box use from their mothers. This is one of the cat problems to remedy before getting kittens. Ask breeders which litter box was used; get the same one.
