How To Build Your Own Fireplace
I am one of those independent 'do it yourself' kind of people. I have so many DIY books, I almost don't have any room for them any longer. Since I badly wanted to build by own fireplace, I decided to do simply that. How hard can it be to learn how to build your own fireplace? Let me just say that it was hard.
After I did some reading up, I mostly learned that I didn't know the definitions for half the terms they used. What exactly is a 2x4, and who knows what mortar is? Well that wasn't a big deal, as I harassed the guys at the local hardware store into explaining things to me.
However, I had a party within the next week and wanted the fireplace done. In fact, the book I was reading was called, "Build Your Own Fireplace in a Week." So anyway, my house was in a state. There were pieces of stone on the floor, dried mortar on my hardwood floor, and this large box of some sort that I had tried to make.
It was all sitting in the middle of my den floor, and I wasn't even halfway done. I had to keep cutting and re-cutting the stones, because I could never get them to fit together just right. This called for action! This is how I got my new fireplace. So, here is how I got my new fireplace!
I found the perfect one that I wanted, used my credit card, and had it installed within three hours from the time they arrived to do it! So, are you itching to build your own fireplace? Good luck to you. If you want to stay sane, I suggest buying your fireplace from the professionals instead!
