Free Landscaping Ideas, Videos, and Pictures

by Jackson Nimble

When you dream up a beautifully landscaped lot, most of the time you also think of something that is expensive. While it can cost a fortune to employ a professional to do the work, you can have a beautiful lot by using free landscaping ideas to design your own design. There are both free ideas you can get from viewing landscaping pictures and landscaping videos and free ways to actually do the work.

Of course, free landscape design ideas are not really free if you have to pay for or rent videos or buy magazines on the subject. But try not to forget your local library! Most will have shelves of writings and media on landscape design that you can search through and take notes, or take home to use.

The internet also has endless pages of ideas available to you for free. Websites that sell landscape design and decor products often display detailed articles that show you absolutely free landscaping pictures and ideas in the hope that you will buy something while on the site. It's not just print information, either. Many suites have streaming videos and even downloadable descriptions and diy demonstrations.

If you know of a local garden club, they also will many times have resources you can use, and may have free seminars to network with others for ideas, tips, and tricks. This may be a good place to find folks to exchange plants to each other. There's no price except a little effort when you take plantings that you have a lot of or just are tired of and exchange them for some else's plants that you want.

Once you have ideas about your design, you can still manage a great deal using pictures of landscaping that include altering what you have in a better way. The same old plantings and shrubbery can really shine when transplanted to a different location. Even old refuse may be used for nice effects. Old brick from construction or recycled objects from former uses can make walkways and edging, and old fence posts make nice accents as well.

You might also be able to get a good amount of plantings and seeds absolutely free as well. Check with your state or county extension agent to see if they have surplus plantings or special offers. Your parks agency may have free or very cheap surplus plants from their greenhouses that are available to the general public if they know to ask. Many catalogue and online seed distributors do offer free samples of seeds, so browse a few.

Another outlet of free landscaping ideas is simply using your own eyes. Take a nice Sunday afternoon drive and look at houses that look especially appealing to you and write down design options they use. If folks are out working, some may even be willing to talk with you and share ideas. Some will be flattered that you ask. You may want to take pictures of landscaping you really like for later reference.
